Uhuru will not hand over power, Raila claims
NASA presidential candidate Rt. Hon Raila Amollo Odinga has just finished holding a press conference in which he claimed that President Uhuru is planning to cling to power. In the press briefing, Raila mentioned three things that indicate Uhuru’s intentions not to hand over power if defeated in the forthcoming elections. These three things include insults, lies, and militarization of the country.
“Everyone has noticed that lately, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto is a very angry couple. They are lashing out at everything and everyone with intemperate and uncouth language, constantly exploding into fits of rage and spreading lies and misinformation”, said the NASA presidential candidate.
Raila has particularly taken issues with the lies, two lies, that he claims are being peddled by Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto. “Cornered by their failures and threatened by fears of losing power, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have in recent couple of weeks resorted to lying—intentionally, deliberately, and consistently to the country in addition to resorting to intimidation of independent institutions as campaigns have tightened and things swing out of the president’s control”, Raila emphasized in the public address.
The lies mentioned by the former Prime Minister is the statement that NASA coalition is praying for the postponement of the general elections, and the statement that NASA is interested in a shared government, popularly referred to as “Nusu-mkate”. Elsewhere in the campaign trails, NASA has emphasized that they are ready for the elections on 8th of August 2017. Senator James Orengo also indicated as much during the meeting with IEBC held at Hilton Hotel in Nairobi. During the meeting, the Jubilee representatives were clear that they did not care who prints the contentious presidential ballot papers as long as the elections are held on the 8th of August.
On the statement that NASA wants a shared government, Raila had this to say, “We wish to tell [President Kenyatta] that NASA has no desire to join his kleptocracy and wish to warn him again not to even dare think of rigging the forthcoming election.”
Raila also said that the government has engaged a full gear training of the military and other armed forces, “There is a full scale mobilization and training of the Police, Kenya Wildlife Service wardens, Kenya Forest Service wardens, Prison wardens and the Army at a scale that only exists in dictatorships where the Constitution is overthrown and the President rules by force.” Raila explained that this scenario can only be understood in the backdrop that Uhuru intends to cling to power.
“Throughout the history of democracy, established Kleptocracies involved in serious crimes cling to power at any cost. Jubilee has stolen too much and they are worried about leaving power. The President and his team have been around the country, felt the ground and they know they have lost this election. That fact has so disoriented Uhuru that he is unashamedly propagating lies no one believes.”
Finally the NASA presidential candidate demanded that Kenya’s democracy should be protected and warned President Kenyatta against any attempt to rig the presidential election.
