Kenyans threaten to ditch #Sidebar thanks to a spat between Larry Madowo and Miguna Miguna

#Sidebar, the Wednesday prime time TV talk show by Larry Madowo went waywire, thrice. The first time was when Miguna Miguna called Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto demagogues. The second time was when Miguna Miguna referred to Senator Murkomen and MP Jenny Shamalla as Jubilee hags and lastly when he said that revolutions are made from blood.

When Miguna Miguna called Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto demagogues, Murkomen and Jenny, including moderator Larry Madowo, understood the word to be an insult, when in fact the word demagogue refers to “a political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument”. With such a definition, it is very clear that every political leader in Kenya including but not limited to Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto and Raila Odinga are demagogues. Anciently though, the word demagogue referred to “a leader or orator who espoused the cause of the common people”, something that many would like to identify with Raila Odinga.

Larry Madowo would later stop Miguna Miguna from continuing with his expositions when he referred to Murkomen and Jenny as hags. Now that’s where I think Miguna lost it. A hag has be defined as “a witch” with synonyms such as “croneold womanwitchgorgoncow, old cow, old bag, old bat” accompanying the definition.

When Miguna Miguna said that “revolutions are from blood” of which Larry Madowo asked him whether he advocates for violence, Miguna Miguna insisted to finish his statement by completely and totally refusing to answer Larry Madowo. The refusal by Miguna Miguna to respond to him forced Larry Madowo from ever attending #Sidebar.

The ban of Miguna by Larry Madowo has angered many Kenyans, with some of them taking to Twitter to tell Larry Madowo that if Miguna Miguna is not reinstated on #Sidebar then they too will ditch watching the show. Both the controversial statements by Miguna Miguna and subsequent ban has made #Sidebar to trend for hours since last night.
