Why everyone is copying OPPO Find X
There is a craze in the smartphone market for device makers to go bezel-free. This craze is driven by the constant need to increase a smartphone’s screen size but at the same time retaining the now standard palm-sized dimensions typical of most high-end devices started by the Samsung Galaxy Note series. Although Apple opposed these big sized phones as they are quite a task to use single-handedly, the introduction of iPhone XL versions and later the iPhone X proved that what the consumers are craving for are phones with large screens they can easily type on, perform some mini productivity works on, and most importantly enjoy gaming on. But iPhone X couldn’t really manage to put the screen at every surface after removing the bezels, so they introduced what everyone now hates, the notch … that somehow everyone else decided to copy. After seeing how much we hated the notch, OPPO Find X decided to come up with an out of the box innovation that again, everyone is copying.
Two days ago Honor teased their top end smartphone yet dubbed Honor Magic 2, the successor of Honor Magic. Honor Magic tried to get rid of the bezels but it couldn’t, and despite being unable to completely get rid of the bezels, the device still included the hated notch. But after OPPO launched the OPPO Find X earlier in June featuring the new innovation that beautifully gets rid of the notch, Honor decided to copy the innovation and dubbed it Magic Slide. Interestingly though, Honor is not the only copycat in town. Xiaomi which is one of the largest smartphone makers in China after Huawei (the owners of Honor brand name), teased their own Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 geared to be launched in October that will also feature a slide for the phone’s camera system.
The camera slider on OPPO Find X, aptly named Stealth Camera, made it possible for OPPO to break a record; as for the first time, a smartphone company was able to bring to the market a smartphone with a 93.8% screen to body ratio. This was also helped by the decision for OPPO to also copy Samsung’s edge design that first came with Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The Stealth Camera System by itself is a set of three cameras – two rear 16 MP and 20 MP cameras that combine to give DSLR image quality images, and a gigantic 25 MP selfie shooter that is currently unrivalled by any other. Actually, the OPPO cameras are so good that even though the OPPO Find X is a top end device, the device is still being marketed as camera-centric.
Just like any other top end device, OPPO Find X features other high-end components such as the Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 that boasts of Octa-core 2.8 GHz Kryo 385 gold quad plus 1.7 GHz Kryo 385 silver quad all helped by the huge 8 GB RAM. The Internal storage is 128 GB. The display, on the other hand, is a 6.4″ AMOLED 1080 by 2340 resolution screen rated at 87% screen to body ration – in as much as OPPO would like to rate it at 93.8% screen to body ration.
Lastly, the OPPO Find X has a 3730 mAh battery that should enable the device to serve a user for around 20 hours before needing a recharge.
