Labor CS with questionable characters Ukur Yattani appointed Acting Treasury CS

It is now official, Henry Rotich is no longer the CS Treasury, at least until the corruption case against him that is currently active in court is heard and finalized. Henry Rotich and his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge were on Tuesday arraigned in court to answer to charges over some shs 63 billion Arror and Kimwarer Dam Scandals. The two were charged at the Milimani law courts where they were accused of conspiracy to defraud government, failing to comply with procurement law and irregular procurement of insurance policy through single sourcing. As Rotich and his PS counterpart and 25 others go about fighting the corruption charges against them, President Kenyatta has gone ahead to name CS for Labor Ukur Yattani as the acting CS in the Treasury docket. This comes when speculations were going around that the President was likely to name Esther Koimett as Rotich’s replacement. Some rumors had also come our way that Raphael Tuju was being considered to head the sensitive ministry.

Naming of Ukur Yattani has not gone down well with a section of Kenyans. Those against the appointment are pointing to the time when Yattani was mentioned in the famous list by President Kenyatta where those named in corruption cases were to be cleared by EACC. Ukur Yattani appeared before EACC and was later cleared of the corruption allegations. Others are pointing to the allegations that Ukur Yattani practices “instigating divisive politics of exclusion, cultivation of suspicion, fear, and mistrust among communities”, hence not fit to hold a CS position. As Ukur Yattani takes over as the CS Treasury, Julius Monzi Muia from Planning joins him in the same Ministry but as Principal Secretary. Torome Saitoti replaces Julias at the Planning Ministry. Other appointments include that of Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa who has been appointed as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.
