Simon Cowell performs Igwe Salutation at America’s Got Talent Quarter Finals
You know the Igwe Salutation? That salutation Kenyans perform in events like Churchil Show when the joke imewashika? The same salutation that has become common at East Africa’s Got Talent when a talent performer has killed it? If you are not aware of the Igwe Salutation then take a look at this crazy video of Uhuru Kenyatta’s dance edited to appear as if he is one of the East Africa’s Got Talent contestants. The salutation at the end of the video is what I call Igwe Salutation.
The Igwe Salutation definitely got the attention of Simon Cowell, the brain behind Got Talent Franchise. In appreciating the extremely talented dance group V Unbeatables from India at their Quarter Finals performance, Simon Cowell appeared the odd one out when he stood up to wave his hands up and down in unison, almost confusing the rest of the judges and the V Unbeatable themselves, as such waving of hands, which is the way to perform Igwe Salutation, appears as a “boo” signal to someone not familiar with it.
The Igwe Salutation by Simon Cowell is a big thumbs up to the team at East Africa’s Got Talent. This shows that not only has Simon Cowell been following the latest Got Talent show hosted in Kenya, but also tells us that the Executive Producer of Got Talent Franchise has approved of the way the show is being conducted.
Having said that however, the East Africa’s Got Talent is still raw and way below the Global Standards that have been set by America’s Got Talent. Although Episode 1 of Season 1 of East Africa’s Got Talented was rated above average by me, the subsequent episodes haven’t been able to put me on my sit. Actually I totally missed watching East Africa’s Got Talent Episode 3 but I haven’t been able to feel a thing.
