Kenya’s Kwara Wins 2019 Global Fintech Hackcelerator alongside Ugandan Startup

Kwara, a software company that focuses on building digital banking platforms has emerged as the winner of the 2019 Global Fintech Hackcelerator in Kenya. The startup that focuses on building the platforms for cooperatives in emerging markets was among 15 finalists out of the 45 that applied for this year’s hackcelerator.

The hackcelerator, which is part of the Afro Asia Fintech Festival commitments was organized by the Central Bank of Kenya, in partnership with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and is also in partnership with KPMG.

Uganda’s Vente was also named winner alongside the Kenyan startup. Bureau Vente has built a digital traceability and sustainability platform (Mobile and Dashboard app) that tracks coffee from the farm gate to the point of export.
The two startups; Kwara and Bureau Vente of Uganda will be accelerated and participate in at the Demo Day at the Singapore Fintech Festival running from the 11th to 15th November 2019.

Singapore Fintech Festival is the world’s largest FinTech event and a global platform for the FinTech community, drawing close to 45,000 participants comprising FinTech players, technopreneurs, policy makers, financial industry leaders, investors including private equity players and venture capitalists, and academics.

The 2018 Festival saw participants from over 127 countries, hosted more than 250 global luminaries and 480 exhibitors, and featured highlights such as the FinTech Conference with a new AI in Finance Summit and Global Investors’ Summit, the FinTech Awards, Global FinTech Hackcelerator, Innovation Lab Crawl and Industry Networking and Workshops.

This year’s Global Fintech Hackcelerator program judging evaluation was based on the criteria below:

  • Solutions to specifically defined problems
  • How innovative the solutions are in regards to using technology
  • Ease of adoption and ability to scale

In 2017, the Global Fintech Hackcelerator program received 580 submissions, with representation from over 40 countries.
