How to stop strangers from tagging you on their Facebook Posts and Photos
- “Please NO TAGS on your facebook posts aaaaiiii”,
- “who said i want to b photo tagged…nkt!!!!this has to stop”
These and many such cries have become way too common on Facebook, an indication that majority of Facebook users do not know how to take control of their Facebook accounts. Go to your Facebook, click on a random profile of a female, now go through their timeline. Chances are going to find Facebook posts by others and the only reason that post is on her profile is because the author decided to be with “and 17 others” in that post. These Facebook posts usually show up on people’s timelines automatically, because by default that’s what Facebook has allowed.
What many do not know is that instead of complaining, they can actually go to their Facebook Setting and change them in order to disallow any idlers from tagging them on their Facebook Posts or photos unnecessarily. This article is meant to provide you with the procedure of doing just that. You need to however remember that Facebook usually change the settings around so guideline applies as per the date of its publication. If Facebook changes the procedure of performing these tasks, then it shouldn’t be hard to navigate yourself around the Facebook settings as the changes are hardly that drastic.
How to disallow people from tagging you on Facebook Posts from Facebook Mobile App
To disallow your Facebook friends from automatically tagging you on posts through the Facebook App, or at least to disallow those posts from appearing on your Timeline without your approval, here is what you need to do:
- Fire up your Facebook App and while still at the Home Page, check for the three Menu lines at the top right corner of the App. Press on it to open MENU.
- The new Menu has new features and a new look meant to make it easy for you to get things like Most Recent posts, Nearby Friends, Memories, Saved items, etc. Scroll down past that list to Settings & Privacy just below Help & Support. Click on it.
- Under Settings & Privacy choose Settings. Then under Settings scroll down to Privacy. In Privacy you will see Privacy Settings, Face Recognition, Timeline and Tagging, Public Posts, Blocking and Location. Choose Timeline and Tagging.
- In Timeline and Tagging there is Tagging headline and Review headline. What you want to do is go to Review headline under which ensure that both “Review tags people add to your posts before the tags appear on Facebook” and “Review posts you’re tagged in before the post appears on your timeline” are turned on. Facebook turns them off by default.
Once you have ensured from step for that both review options are turned on, then next time someone tags you, you will have to manually add that post to your Timeline if you want it on your timeline, or if you do not want it on your timeline you will may just ignore or hide that post.
The same process can be done via web browser where:
- You take your mouse pointer to the top right corner of the browser to the arrow pointing downwards just after the help icon then from there you click on Settings.
- From Settings Page, on the left pane, look for Timeline and Tagging then click on it.
- In the Timeline and Tagging page go to review then turn on the review posts and tags as explained before.
