Money Heist Season 4 – I fucking hate it

It is rare for Rotten Tomatoes to give a show (or a movie) a 100% rating. Extremely rare. Actually some of my best movies receive well below 50% pass mark. A movie I really really loved had a 26% rating. Many disagree with the critics but few spend time to read detailed reviews of the critics but once you do, you’d find yourself almost always agreeing with their criticisms.
But they gave Money Heist Season 1 an 86% rating, Season 2 received 100% rating, Season 3 received 100% rating and Money Heist Season 4 received 60% rating.

That means anyone saying Money Heist is a half-witted show – that person ought to rounded up and jailed. As a close friend of mine who is himself a play writer, Malvin, has noted, “Money Heist creators are endowed with something more than art. Something more than talent. Something more than passion. It’s a brew of the above three.”

So why do I say I fucking hate Money Heist Season 4?

If there is one thing I looked forward to from July last year is Money Heist Season 4 (Officially Money Heist Part 4). That’s because Money Heist Season 3 ended with one of the most breathtaking cliff-hangers in recent history of TV Series, where the Professor had just heard gunshots meant to dupe him that the love of his life, Lisbon, had been executed. Immediately the Professor called his team at The National Bank of Spain ordering them to counterattack the approaching police, “This is no longer a heist, we’re taking down the system, this is a war”, Professor told Palermo, the gang commandant. At the same time, Nairobi was tricked by use of her son into exposing herself to the police sniper who shot through her ribs to her lung, but we aren’t shown whether she survived the fatal gunshot.

So I had to wait, for almost 9 months, for me to know what happened after the gang blew up a police track, and what happened to Nairobi. The wait was finally paid off by the premiere of Money Heist Season 4 on April 4, 2020, only for the season to take me through an emotional roller coaster that I came to hate.

First, Nairobi’s condition was certain. The gang managed to operate on her only for Gandia, after being helped by Palermo into breaking off his chain, to threaten her life. He almost killed Nairobi but after Helsinki, Tokyo and a Nurse hostage saves her life, Gandia kidnaps her then takes her through torturous ordeal, to finally shoot her in the head.

The emotional roller coasters also includes the uncertainty of whether Lisbon would confess to the police to further send Professor’s plan into jeopardy, but after Professor learnt that Lisbon was still alive, thanks to insight provided by Tokyo, the tension eased a bit, knowing that the good professor would definitely come up with a plan to rescue her, and he actually did – and the plan was nothing other than poetic. Beautiful.

Then there was the anxiety of whether or not the gang will finally be able to get out of the bank, alive. Knowing how Seasons 1 and panned out, where it is in Season 2 that the gang managed to get out of the Royal Mint with their 2 billion Euros, I was expecting that the same would be true for Season 4, where in Money Heist Season 4 is when the gang would get away with their melted gold from the National Bank of Spain.

But it wasn’t so. After Professor and his team managed to rescue Lisbon from the custody of Supreme Court, and successfully dupe the police into dropping her into the Bank to join the others “for Nairobi”, the Professor is found by the Police Investigator Alicia Sierra who fires a shot at the Professor’s head that misses him. Then the damn fucking show ends – and that’s why I fucking hate Money Heist Season 4.

I fucking hate it because now I have to wait for more than a year, probably 2, before I can get to know how Professor will navigate himself outside Alicia’s trap. Will he fight her? Maybe, we have already seen, twice, that the Professor can put up a good fight, even against an ex-soldier. Will lure her into joining him same way he lured Raquel Murillo who was the lead negotiator for the police during Money Heist Season 1 and 2?

We’ll just have to wait. Hey, and those who say Money Heist is crap – I fucking hate you!
