Airtel, WorldRemit partner to allow subscribers to receive cash from 129 countries for free

World Remit an international money transfer service that allows people across the world to send and receive money has partnered with Airtel Money to enable its customers to receive money from 129 countries, free of charge.

Through this partnership, Airtel Money customers will be able to receive funds directly into their wallets and make transactions such as sending or withdrawing money, paying bills or using the Lipa Na Airtel Money options, and carry out any other in-app payments for goods and services globally in a fast, affordable, secure and easy way.

“Through this partnership, our customers are assured of seamless services across the globe, without fear of costs. Airtel Money continues to offer fast, secure, and affordable services to all Kenyans,” Airtel Kenya Managing Director, Prasanta Das Sarma said.

It will benefit about 400,000 Airtel Money users in countries covered under the deal with the London-based fintech that includes the United States of America which is the largest source of diaspora remittances to Kenya, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Australia.

WorldRemit is now the leading fintech providing international money transfer services online, an industry that was previously dominated by offline legacy players. Airtel will be seeking to tap into this partnership to increase customers on its mobile money platform through accessing new markets to boost its revenues and cut the dominance of Safaricom’s MPESA which now has 50 million active users across Africa
