Tatu Power Boosts Power Supply to Tatu City Businesses at Tatu Industrial Park

Tatu City, a 5,000-acre Special Economic Zone (SEZ) located just 30 minutes from Nairobi, has recently provided a significant boost to the power supply for new businesses in the Tatu Industrial Park. Tatu Power, Tatu City’s privately licensed power supply and distribution company regulated by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), has provided permanent power connections to several companies, including Cold Solutions, Wonderpac Industries, Kenya Wine Agencies Limited, Zhenghong, Stecol Corporation, and Mahesh & Tirth Construction. The power increase, which is five times the current demand at Tatu City, is being fed from the city’s 135MVA substation.

operational SEZ in Kenya. The Tatu Industrial Park, the largest private light industrial zone in East Africa, is home to over 70 companies that are either operational or under development. The first phase of the park is 95% sold, and a second phase was added to meet market demand.

According to Alex Kahu, Head of Utilities at Tatu City, the uptime at Tatu City is currently above 99% thanks to the activation of the 135MVA substation, which is a significant private investment in East Africa. Power demand at Tatu City is expected to triple in 2023 as more businesses and residents move to the city.

In addition to power, Tatu City has an integrated utilities approach that includes the provision of world-class water, sewerage, and ICT services for residents and business owners. The city also has two schools, Crawford International and Nova Pioneer, that educate over 3,000 students daily, as well as thousands of apartments by Unity Homes and family residences in Kijani Ridge.
