Spotify unveiled new tools and resources for creators during the Spotify stream on event
Spotify, the world’s leading audio streaming platform, hosted its second Stream On event on March 8, 2023. The event was a celebration of the power and potential of audio, and a showcase of Spotify’s latest innovations and partnerships for creators and artists.
The event featured appearances from some of the biggest names in music, podcasting, video and content creation, such as Billie Eilish, BTS, Dua Lipa, J Balvin, Joe Rogan, Michelle Obama and more. Spotify also announced new features and updates for its app, such as:
- A new Creator Hub that provides a central place for creators to access all the tools and resources they need to grow their audience and monetize their work on Spotify. The Creator Hub includes features like Canvas (short looping videos that accompany songs), Marquee (a paid promotion tool that helps artists reach more listeners), Discovery Mode (a feature that allows artists to influence how their music is recommended), Soundtrap (a cloud-based audio recording and editing software), Anchor (a podcast creation platform) and more.
- A new HiFi subscription tier that will offer lossless CD-quality audio to listeners who want the highest sound quality possible. HiFi will be available later this year in select markets.
- A new partnership with WordPress will allow bloggers to easily embed Spotify podcasts into their posts. This will enable podcasters to reach new audiences and drive more engagement with their content.
- A new initiative called Loud & Clear aims to increase transparency and fairness in the music industry. Loud & Clear will provide data and insights on how artists are paid by Spotify, as well as resources and education on topics like royalties, streaming economics and best practices.
- A new global expansion plan that will bring Spotify to 85 new markets across Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. This will increase Spotify’s potential reach to more than a billion people who have yet to experience Spotify.
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said that Stream On was “the most important event we’ve ever done” because it demonstrated how Spotify is “the home for all things audio”. He said that Spotify’s mission is to “unlock the potential of human creativity” by giving creators “the opportunity to live off their art” and giving fans “the opportunity to enjoy it”.
